President Hage Geingob today said Namibia and other African countries will not offer to be guinea pigs for a Covid-19 vaccine.
The president said Namibia will participate in any vaccine trial that has been tested elsewhere, but will not allow her people to be used in a trial-and-error process for vaccines.
“If the vaccine is tested in America or elsewhere we will definitely take it, but what we are not open to is the vaccine being tried on our people. We want to find a way that will benefit our people, but not expose them,” he said.
Geingob’s sentiments comes amid African countries, including Namibia, signing up for the Covax vaccine trial which aims to create leeway for Africans, especially the vulnerable, to access the vaccine when it’s available.
