Erongo governor Neville Andre has announced that people who died of Covid-19 at Walvis Bay will now be buried in existing graveyards at the town.
This comes after consultations between the Covid-19 burial committee and some Walvis Bay residents who were opposing burials at a site that had been chosen at the town’s Narraville area.
The families of people who died of Covid-19 at Walvis Bay are now free to indicate where they want to bury their family members.
The announcement by André was made at a meeting between stakeholders and a delegation that arrived in Walvis Bay on Wednesday to assess the Covid-19 situation at the town.
The delegation, led by the deputy minister of labour and employment creation, Hafeni Ndemula, will also visit the Covid-19 burial site at Narraville.
Namibia has so far recorded seven deaths attributed to Covid-19.
