HEALTH minister Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia reported 128 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

He said 79 cases are from Windhoek, 35 from Walvis Bay, 10 from Swakopmund with Onadjokwe, Oshakati, Outapi, Keetmanshoop all having one case each.

“Windhoek cases continue to increase rapidly and among them are three health care workers. As I emphasised yesterday, our health workers need to protect themselves and need to be protected because we need them to care for others,” he said.

The minister added that the country is increasingly seeing cases with Covid-19 symptoms, which is becoming a worrying trend.

Additionally, another worrying trend is that most cases are unable to indicate having come in contact with confirmed cases.

“The team is still verifying the number of cases that recovered, therefore today we will only announce yesterday’s cases” Shangula said.

Five cases are severely sick, with Khomas having one, and Erongo four.

Six cases are still in critical condition according to the minister, with four in the Khomas region and two at Erongo.

Namibia now has 3 229 confirmed coronavirus cases, 715 recoveries, 2 495 active cases with 19 deaths.
