Namibia has recorded 69 new coronavirus infections, one more death linked to Covid-19 and 25 recoveries from the virus. This was announced by health minister Kalumbi Shangula on Wednesday.
Thirty of the newly confirmed infections were recorded in Windhoek, 28 at Oshakati, three each at Okahandja and Mariental, two at Gobabis and one each at Karasburg, Lüderitz and Walvis Bay.
Shangula said the newly confirmed infections from Windhoek include pupils from different schools, prison inmates and correctional officers. All of the cases from Oshana are from one correctional facility, made up of 26 inmates and two officers.
The country’s latest death linked to Covid-19 is that of a 68-year-old man from Windhoek who had multiple comorbidities, Shangula also said.
He further reported that 24 of the latest recoveries from a coronavirus infection were in Khomas and one in the Ohangwena region.
Namibia’s total number of active coronavirus infections now stands at 1 794. Seven of the active cases are in a severe or critical condition.
The country has so far recorded 12 069 confirmed coronavirus infections, 130 deaths linked to Covid-19 and 10 145 recoveries from the virus.
