Health update … Namibia has recorded 54 new coronavirus infections and another 65 recoveries from the virus.

This is according to health and social services minister Kalumbi Shangula, who announced the country’s latest daily figures on the novel coronavirus pandemic at the Covid-19 communication centre in Windhoek on Tuesday.

Omuthiya recorded the highest number of newly confirmed infections with 34, followed by Windhoek with seven,  Swakopmund with six and Okahandja with four. Oshakati and Engela recorded two and one, respectively.

Shangula said all of the 34 cases at Omuthiya are from the police holding cells at the town.

He also announced that another 29 people who had been infected with the coronavirus have recovered in the Khomas region, while 13 people have recovered in Otjozondjupa, 11 in Oshana, nine in Erongo and one each in Kunene, Ohangwena and Zambezi.

Namibia has so far recorded 12 729 confirmed coronavirus infections, 133 deaths linked to Covid-19 and 10 878 recoveries from the virus.
