THE country has recorded 659 new recoveries bringing the total to date to 4 640.
This was announced afternoon by the health minister Kalumbi Shangula on Wednesday.
The recoveries are from Khomas 545, Erongo 59, Ohangwena 18, Hardap 12, Kavango East 11, Omusati 10 and Otjozondjupa 4.
The minister said there were 180 Covid-19 cases confirmed on Wednesday. Of these 91 are male and 89 female, the youngest is one year and the oldest is 78 years old.
Windhoek recorded 99 new cases, Walvis Bay 23, Swakopmund 13, Rundu 9, Rehoboth 8, Okahandja 7, Keetmanshoop and Katima Mulilo four each, while Karasburg and Lüderitz had three each, Gobabis two and one each from Usakos, Mariental, Otjiwarongo, Oshakati and Nankudu.
Shangula noted that two deaths were recorded, one female from Windhoek and a male from Keetmanshoop.
The total number of active cases now stands at 4 375. Of the active cases, 13 are in severe to critical conditions.
The minister said since 5 September, a total of 1 199 contacts were swabbed and 434 (36%) tested positive. This represent, 55% of the total confirmed cases recorded in the last five days.
He added that out of 434 contacts who tested positive, 303 (69%) did not present any symptoms consistent with Covid-19.
“Hence, we urge the public to exercise extra caution and those who tested positive to provide necessary information for effective contacts tracing,” he said.
Namibia now has 9 108 confirmed cases and 93 deaths.
