Covid-19 Update … Namibia has recorded 53 new coronavirus infections, one death linked to Covid-19 and 96 recoveries from the virus. This was announced by health minister Kalumbi Shangula on Monday.

Of the new cases, 37 are male and 16 female, with the youngest seven years old and the oldest 68 years of age.

Windhoek recorded 40 newly confirmed coronavirus infections, Rehoboth and Otjiwarongo three each, Mariental two, and Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Okahandja, Rundu and Katima Mulilo one each.

Shangula said of the 40 cases recorded in Windhoek, 23 were reported from Windhoek Correctional Facility.

“We advise that the congestion in the correctional facilities receive due attention from management,” he said.

The latest recoveries from the virus are distributed as follows: Kavango West 88, Kavango East four, and Ohangwena and //Kharas two each.

The total number of active cases now stands at 1 947. Of the active cases, five are in a severe to critically sick condition.

Shangula also announced that the country recorded one death linked to Covid-19, after a 58-year-old man died in Windhoek.

Namibia has so far recorded 11 989 confirmed coronavirus infections, 129 deaths linked to Covid-19 and 9 913 recoveries from the virus.
