Health update: Namibia has recorded 29 new coronavirus infections out of 1 066 tests and 15 recoveries from the virus, deputy health minister Ester Muinjangue said on Monday.
Sixteen of the newly confirmed infections were recorded at Oshakati, five each at Rehoboth and Windhoek, two at Omuthiya and one at Onandjokwe.
Muinjangue said the country was recording many confirmed cases coming from institutions, with 16 of the new infections reported from the Oshana region and 13 of those from schools and a correctional facility.
She urged the public to continue to adhere to prevention measures, particularly in enclosed spaces.
“We have noted with satisfaction that most political parties do observe the public health measures during their political campaign rallies. We encourage this to be the norm rather than the exception and call on all political parties to do the same,” she said.
The 15 new recoveries are all from the Oshana region. This brings the country’s total number of recoveries to 11 620.
Namibia now still has 1 484 active coronavirus infections. Of the active cases, three are in a severe or critical condition.
The country has so far recorded 13 240 confirmed novel coronavirus infections and 134 deaths linked to Covid-19.
