PUBLIC BRIEFING … The 40th National Covid-19 Public Briefing is currently underway in Windhoek. Vice president Nangolo Mbumba says the country’s vaccination coverage currently stands at 20%.

The vice president announced that the number of people at public gatherings has been adjusted to 500 persons from 250.

“It remains the responsibility of every person to maintain hand hygiene by washing hands, wearing masks and social distancing,” Mbumba said on Monday.

Health and social services minister Kalumbi Shangula said 234 people have died during the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections, which was dominated by the Omicron variant.

“The majority of these deaths were of unvaccinated people,” Shangula stressed.
