INDEPENDENT presidential candidate Panduleni Itula failed to convince the Electoral Tribunal for the Windhoek District why he was opposing the use of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in tomorrow’s national polls, magistrate Uaatjo Uanivi ruled yesterday.
Itula’s urgent application in which he was challenging the use of the EVMs was dismissed, and he was also ordered to pay the legal costs for the three lawyers representing the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
In his judgement, Uanivi found that Itula’s application was neither “extremely urgent nor is it urgent”.
He added that the Electoral Tribunal had no jurisdiction to adjudicate in matters which involve the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
Several Swapo members who attended a media conference which was addressed by the party’s information secretary, Hilma Nicanor, yesterday celebrated the ruling of the tribunal.
