POPULAR Democratic Movement (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani has branded those at the helm of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) liars and said they can no longer be entrusted with overseeing a credible election.

Venaani call a media conference in the capital on Thursday, convened to place on record PDM’s dissatisfaction around inconsistent information surfacing around electronic voting machines (EVMs) which went missing while under the care of the ruling Swapo Party.

Swapo has said the EVMs fell off a trailer while being transported to Outapi for the Swapo Party Elders Council congress in 2017.

The ECN previously indicated that the Namibian Police were investigating the matter, but it has since transpired that no criminal case had been opened to that effect.

This was confirmed by inspector general Sebastian Ndeitunga.

“My officials are telling me nobody opened a case with the police. If there is anyone who has opened a case with the police for investigation, I want the CR number so I can follow up on the progress of the investigation,” Ndeitunga said in an interview with Nampa.
