COVID-19 CRISIS: The Ministry of Health and Social Services announced today that 1 518 newly confirmed novel coronavirus infections were recorded in Namibia on Sunday, together with three deaths linked to Covid-19 and 427 recoveries from the coronavirus.
The newly confirmed infections represent a positivity ratio of 40% out of 3 794 test results.
The Khomas region is still reporting the largest share of new infections, with 927 of the latest positive test results, followed by the Erongo region with 256 infections.
Health and social services minister Kalumbi Shangula noted in the ministry’s statement that only 17 people among the newly confirmed infections have received vaccinations against Covid-19. Most of them have received only one dose of the inoculation, but one person has received two doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, he reported.
Shangula also said the three deaths announced appear low because many healthworkers who assist in compiling the daily Covid-19 pandemic update took a break to rest over the weekend.
The country’s hospitals now have 504 patients with Covid-19 admitted for treatment, with 76 patients in intensive care units (ICUs).
Namibia’s current coronavirus pandemic figures are:
Confirmed cases: 74 682
Deaths: 1 164
Active cases: 13 831
Recoveries: 59 676.
