The Erongo Regional Council’s head office at Swakopmund and constituency offices at Swakopmund and Walvis Bay will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to a possible coronavirus contamination.
Chief regional officer Habatte Doeses confirmed the closure of the offices, saying it is being done to have the premises disinfected while waiting for a further directive from the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
In a letter to Juuso Kambweshe, chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council, Doeses said a staff member of the council’s head office came into contact with a person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
She also wrote that a person who died of Covid-19 at Walvis Bay had been in contact with the staff of the Walvis Bay Urban and Rural constituencies’ offices.
Doeses added that the temporary closure of offices includes delegated functions offices such as the directorate of planning, the HIV-Aids unit, the maintenance subdivision and the teachers resource centre at Swakopmund, as well as the maintenance subdivision at Walvis Bay.
The offices are due to reopen on Friday (24 July).
