THE Ministry of Health and Social Services’ executive director, Ben Nangombe, says Namibia has recorded 665 new recoveries from novel coronavirus infections, 83 newly confirmed infections and another three deaths linked to Covid-19.
Speaking at the Covid-19 communication centre in Windhoek on Tuesday, Nangombe said recoveries from the coronavirus in Namibia now number 7 358, out of 9 901 confirmed cases registered countrywide. The country’s Covid-19 death toll has reached 106, and active cases now number 2 437.
Of the new cases, 41 are from Windhoek, seven from Rehoboth, six from Walvis Bay, five from Onandjokwe, four from Swakopmund, while Oshakati, Eenhana and Okahandja reported three each. Rundu and Tsumeb recorded two each, with one new infection recorded at Katima Mulilo, Grootfontein, Okakarara, Omaruru, Usakos, Gobabis and Lüderitz each.
“The figures are quite encouraging these days,” Nangombe said. “This should really motivate us to keep adhering to the prevention measures. We have noted countries where measures were relaxed when the situation seemed to be improving, then the huge resurgence followed. Therefore, we need to remain vigilant,” he said.
The three people who have died after contracting the coronavirus are a 30-year-old man who died at Walvis Bay and a 69-year-old woman and 59-year-old man who both died in Windhoek.
