Health and social services minister Kalumbi Shangula on Thursday evening announced 1 016 newly confirmed novel coronavirus infections in Namibia, and 34 deaths linked to the virus.
Out of the 3 080 novel coronavirus test results received over the past 24 hours, the newly confirmed infections represent a 33% positivity ratio, Shangula said.
The majority of new infections (317) are in Windhoek in the Khomas region, followed by the Erongo region with 131, Oshana with 102 and the //Kharas region with 100.
The majority of deaths were reported at Rehoboth (10), followed by Windhoek (5), three each at Otjiwarongo and Eenhana, two each at Walvis Bay, Gobabis and Mariental, and one each at Oshakati, Okongo, Outapi, Onandjokwe, Grootfontein, Tsumeb and Swakopmund.
Currently, 449 patients are hospitalised with Covid-19, with 82 patients in intensive care units.
