THE tabling of the national budget, which was scheduled for the end of this month, has now been delayed till further notice, said the minister of finance, Iipumbu Shiimi, yesterday.
The Namibian Constitution dictates that the ministry of finance presents the country’s expenditure plans and revenue forecast every end of the financial year, which in this case falls on the 31 March.
Shiimi attributed the delay in tabling the national budget to the declaration of a state of emergency on 18 March by the president due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
He, however, assured the nation that the government’s operations will not come to standstill as they will utilise the provisions of the State Finance Act to allow expenditure to continue by tapping into the as yet unpresented budget to allocate money to various government branches.
