SURGE … Health minister Kalumbi Shangula said Covid-19 remains a threat despite all the successes Namibia has had to curb the spread of the virus.
The country is currently experiencing an upsurge in new infections and deaths, he said.
Shangula said the current measures are enforced to safeguard livelihoods, and at the same time curb the spread of the virus.
He added that the number of infections being reported daily are still high and the spreading of the virus continues in communities. “This calls for greater vigilance,” he said.
Shangula also pointed out that negative rapid antigen tests are now acceptable in Namibia.
The health minister said that the Covax facility has indicated that Namibia’s doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in the next three weeks.
